Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Before submitting a manuscript to Buletin Antropologi: Media Komunikasi Jejaring Antropologi, authors are strongly encouraged to read this guideline thoroughly and ensure their manuscript is prepared according to the journal’s format and scope. Manuscripts not following the structure or format may be returned without review.

Make sure to read the entire guidelines and carefully prepare your manuscript using the provided template before submission. Please note that all manuscripts are subjected to a similarity check upon submission. The manuscript with a similarity score of more than 20% will be automatically rejected.

1. General Requirements

Authors are invited to submit manuscripts that have not been published previously and are not under consideration by another journal.

The journal accepts:

All manuscripts are evaluated through a double-blind peer review process.

2. Scope of the Journal

The journal welcomes manuscripts related to:

Culture, Identity, and Social Transformation
Community, Environment, and Sustainable Development
Politics, Economy, and Public Life
Digital Society, Communication, and Anthropological Networks
Comparative, Cross-cultural, and Interdisciplinary Anthropology

3. Language

Authors may submit manuscripts in:

English (preferred)
Bahasa Indonesia

English manuscripts should follow clear academic English and are recommended to undergo professional language editing before submission.

4. Manuscript Length

Research Article:

6,000–8,500 words

Review Article:

5,000–7,500 words

Book Review:

1,500–2,500 words

Word count includes references.

5. Manuscript Structure

Title

Maximum 18 words.

The title should clearly reflect the content of the manuscript.

Author Information

Include:

Full name
Affiliation
ORCID ID (recommended)
Email address

The corresponding author should be clearly identified.

Abstract

150–250 words.

The abstract should briefly explain:

Background
Objective
Methods
Findings
Conclusion

Provide 3–5 keywords.

Main Text

Introduction

Present:

Methods

Describe clearly:

research design
study site
participants/informants
data collection
ethical considerations
analytical procedures

Qualitative studies are encouraged to explain coding, thematic analysis, triangulation, or ethnographic interpretation.

Results

Present findings systematically.

Authors are encouraged to include:

quotations from participants
tables
figures
thematic matrices
ethnographic narratives

Discussion

The discussion should:

interpret findings critically
compare findings with previous studies
explain theoretical implications
discuss practical implications

Avoid repeating the results section.

Conclusion

Summarize:

principal findings
contribution to anthropology
limitations
future research directions

Acknowledgements

Optional.

Mention funding agencies and contributors.

References

Use APA 7th Edition.

Reference management software is recommended:

6. Citation Requirements

Research articles should include:

Minimum:

30 references

At least:

80% journal articles
70% published within the last ten years
DOI should be included whenever available.

Authors are encouraged to cite relevant articles previously published in BULETIN ANTROPOLOGI when academically appropriate.

7. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should:

be numbered consecutively
have descriptive titles
cite data sources
be editable
be referenced in the text

Image resolution should be at least 300 dpi.

8. Ethical Standards

Authors must ensure that:

data are authentic
informed consent has been obtained when applicable
no plagiarism occurs
no fabricated or falsified data are presented
all authors have approved the submitted manuscript

Research involving human participants should comply with institutional ethical standards.

9. Similarity Policy

To maintain academic integrity, manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software before peer review.

The journal applies the following criteria:

Maximum overall similarity index: 20%
Similarity from a single source should generally not exceed 3%, excluding references, quotations, and standard methodological expressions.
Manuscripts exceeding the threshold may be returned to authors for revision or rejected at the editorial screening stage.

Authors are expected to paraphrase appropriately, cite all sources accurately, and avoid excessive textual overlap with previously published works, including their own publications (self-plagiarism).

10. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Artificial Intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot) may be used only to support language improvement, grammar checking, translation, or preliminary drafting.

Authors remain fully responsible for:

originality
factual accuracy
interpretation
citations
ethical compliance

AI tools must not be listed as authors.

If AI has substantially assisted manuscript preparation, authors should disclose its use in an Acknowledgement or Declaration section.
